happy monday!

It's cold here. Last week when I left for work the car thermometer said 5 degrees. Bitter cold. I will be cold until March. This is what I usually wear on my feet in the winter. As soon as I wake in the morning til I go to bed at night.

And I drink tea. Lots of tea. Throughout the day and into the evening. I have found a tea that I love and they now make it in decaf. So I won't be up at 2 a.m. thinking about how cold my feet are (and that I have to pee because I drank all that tea) :)

Hot Cinnamon Spice, it has a bold spicy flavor with hints of orange. When other teas just tease you about orange zest this one delivers.
What is you favorite tea?

We visited my Grandma over the holidays. It had been too long since I have seen her last. Life gets so busy it's hard to make time for the important things. She showed us pictures of all the grand babies, and letters from family and friends. She doesn't drive much anymore, doesn't go out since Grandpa passed away.
She has made it her business to know what is going on in her family through letters, phone calls, pictures.

I bought these note cards from blackberrygraphics.etsy.com aren't they pretty? I hope she thinks so too.

I am linking up with Miscellany Monday today. I hope everyone has a good week!

snow day monday

1. I love snow days. I love watching the fat flakes float down and cover everything in white. I love watching the boys excitement as they play in the snow and have a whole day off from school. Hooray!!

2. My sweet nephew with the white/blond hair and big blue eyes learned how to crawl this week. A cute video captured the moment and proud parents shared it with us!

3. I started a new blog today. It's a blog about our adventures in food. I'm really excited about it and hope it will be a creative outlet for me. I have only written one post, but you can read it here.

I'm joining in on the miscellany Monday fun at lowercase letters.
I hope everyone has a great week!

it's friday!

This has been such a great week! Usually January is a bit of a downer after the excitement and festivities of the holiday's are over. But not so this year and I am optimistic that it will continue as it has begun!
I want to share a few of the highlights of my week in no particular order:

1. Shopping: It's is a solitary sport for me. I like to browse and take my time. I like to try things on, or not. It all depends on my mood. I like to shop for other people. In fact, I don't even care if I purchase anything. I just like seeing what is out there. I found this leather jacket at banana republic, looked at the price tag, cried a little bit and then left:).

bananarepublic.com

2. Bread: Our favorite bread is called Woodstock and the closest place that sells it is over an hour away from us. We just found a bakery close to us that makes a Woodstock bread!! I'm soo excited.
3. One Word: My word for the year speak has been an ever present whisper in my head. I think I chose wisely.
4. Days off with my husband: We play, we hold hands, we flirt with each other. What a blessing it is to have a day off in the middle of the week to be with just each other.
5. Bible Study: We start each new year with an eight week bible study at our church with great food and fellowship and a study that always challenges and inspires!
Well, that's it for this week. What have you been up to?

blessings

I want this house
on the river
with a nice view
and privacy so I can drink my coffee
on the balcony
in my robe
and you can come over
and I will serve blueberry muffins
with melted butter
we can watch the kids run and jump
on the lawn
and their laughter will
bubble up to meet us
and the dogs will splash in the creek
and we will laugh and shake our heads
and talk about the mess
the abundance, the cup that runnieth over
that is our blessed life
it's a good thing we don't need the house, or
the river, or even the dog to
feel the blessing from God that is our life

one word

I have been giving more than just a passing thought to a new year's resolution, and yes, I realize that I am 4 days late but if there is one thing that my friends and family know about me it is that I will not be rushed.
I have come across a few blogs that have introduced me to the idea of having a "one word" for a year. I think this is a lovely idea. One word that can be mine for the whole year. Something that can inspire and motivate me. Hopefully a word that can make me feel brave or adventurous and push me to the limits of my comfortable life. I want a word that will be a warm blanket on the cold days but also something that will challenge me to live in a way that is foreign and even scary at times.
The possibilities are endless which is what I dig about it. There are no lists to make which I dig even more. The word doesn't say that I have to organize my kitchen pantry, or lose weight, or floss more. I'm pretty sure that it isn't going to make me feel bad when I haven't accomplished anything. It isn't going to gossip about me when I go for a coffee and pastry instead of a run. The only end result is just in the living.
Having a "one word" for a year feels very organic and unstructured...fully open to possibilities. Coming up with only one word was much harder than one might think. I wanted something risky and daring. So with much careful thought to my risky and daring word, I have found one (or rather it found me).

Speak
speak up. speak out. speak when I feel like being silent. speak to strangers. speak to friends.
I think for a quiet girl, speak is a strong word. I cannot wait to see where it leads.
I was inspired by this place and also this place.
